Lovely Lana

I assume you’ve heard about her before. “The girl to watch in 2012,” is what most music magazines and websites like MTV wrote near the end of 2011. Others prefer to talk about her huge lips rather then her music, yet I guess most of you will have heard her name or at least one of her songs before. I’m talking about the lovely Lizzy Grant, better known as Lana del Rey.

I was one of those people who was hooked after hearing “Video Games” for the first time. I love voices that aren’t like the usual Rihanna and Beyonc√© (not saying that I don’t like them though ’cause they’re great singers” but I adore people like Paolo Nutini and Snow Patrol; the more alternative musicians. It took a while before Lana’s first album came out though, but it finally was there last Friday. Yeah. Lana del Rey’s been critisized a lot since the album came out. Critics say the album doesn’t live up to its expectations and that some songs just simply aren’t that great. The album however is on top of iTunes top albums in 17 (!!) countries now (check either Tumblr or iTunes, it’s all over the place haha!), which I believe is pretty impressive. Lots of people have doubts about Lana’s live performances after her Saturday Night Live performance, but, well, personally… I didn’t think it was that bad. Besides, I really dislike Rihanna’s live performances and even though I love Katy Perry’s songs, I think she’s a disaster live. So, yeah, I’ll give Lana a few more shots before deciding on that one.

Back to the album. I bought “Born To Die – The Deluxe Version” on iTunes today. I have to admit that I initally wanted to download it, but it was a crime to find it somewhere so I decided to be a good girl and pay for the album like I should. And yeah… I love it. Love her voice, love her lyrics and adore the way she pronounces everything she sings. I freakin’ love it. My personal favorites thusfar are “Lucky Ones” and “Without You“. Beautiful lyrics as well. And I’ve enjoyed “Diet Mnt Dew” since I heard it for the first time, for no specific reason. I really recommend this album for anyone who prefers something a little different. The album has quite a few different sounds on it and although I do think you have to like Lana’s singing voice, I think it’s an album a lot of people will enjoy.

“We were two kids, just tryin’ to get out,
Live on the dark side of the American dream.
We would dance all night, play our music loud,
When we grew up nothing was what it seemed.” – Lana Del Rey, “Without You”.¬†
